When you purchase seven GreenStalks in two months, you need a lot of potting mix! I kid you not! Even a single GreenStalk requires quite a bit of potting mix. In order to make it affordable, I decided to go D.Y.I.
After some research, I decided to purchase a very large bundle of peat moss, several bags of “Black Kow,” a large bag of perlite, and a large bag of Dr. Earth fertilizer for Tomato, Vegetables and Herbs. I mixed one part peat moss to one part Black Kow and eyeballed the perlite. I mixed it in a large trash can. Note, I did not add fertilizer into this mix. I add the fertilizer as I fill each individual tier, as not all plants require the same fertilizer. A strawberry tower does not do as well with tomato, veggie and herb fertilizer as it does with fertilizer meant for berries.
I think I filled three GreenStalks with one and a half garbage cans full of mix. Later on, I read that strawberries do better in coco-coir than in peat, so my current mix uses coco-coir instead, in the same proportions. Time will tell if this is true.
I still have a lot of potting mix to make. I am not in a hurry. I am taking it one tier at a time rather than trying to fill them all at once.
